Use our properties to explore all of Donegal. Ideally situated in Ballybofey & Stranorlar, which is located in the center of Donegal and makes a perfect place to explore from.
Donegal boasts breathtaking scenery, pristine beaches, rugged islands and an amazing selection of fauna & flora, this northern - almost untouched - stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way is a must to explore.
Ballybofey & Stranorlar are TwinTowns. Ballybofey in Irish meaning "valley of the cow" and Stranorlor "low valley" are small historic towns. Some years after the Plantation of Ulster, in the aftermath of Cromwell, possession of the rich land of the Finn Valley was the top priority for Scots and English settlers in Donegal. Their first task was to build their castle-type houses, provide manor houses and build stone bridges across the River Finn which can still be seen to this day.
Ballybofey & Stranorlar encapsulates the tragedies of the Irish Civil War. Here is were the last four republicans, who subsequently became known as the “Drumboe Martyrs”, were executed by a Free State firing squad in ballybofey in March 1923. A monument rests in commemoration to this day. Contemporary Ballybofey & Stranorlar has many great shops such as McElhinneys, voted best independent store in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
An array of traditional Irish pubs and restaurants are dotted around the streets. With the county home Gaelic Games field within a few minutes walk, you also have the opportunity to see a traditional Irish sport played at the top level.
In Barnesmore Gap located 5 minutes drive from the TwinTowns are rugged and gaunt grey mountains which, from a distance, give off a hue of blue, and for three miles on either side the traveller is between massive cliffs cut by streams racing down the mountain and falling into the noisy Lowerymore river. The TwinTowns are located in the centre of Co. Donegal, which makes them the perfect area to be based from which to explore the north-west of Ireland.

These stunning sea cliffs are the highest marine cliffs in Europe.
Accessible all year round and standing 600m tall, the sheer drop down into the crashing Atlantic swells below is quite the sight.

A 16,000-hectare park nestled in the heart of the towering Derryveagh Mountains. Walks to suit all levels of experience and home to the largest herd of red deer in Ireland. There’s also a beautiful old castle on the grounds with gardens and a cafe.

This ancient stone ringfort site is believed to have been the seat of the ruling kings of the area, known as the ‘Kingdom of Áileach’. Built in the seventh century with its breathtaking views one can see 5 counties of Ireland from the top.
Lastly with a coastline of 1235 km/772 miles, County Donegal Wild Atlantic Way is blessed with many beautiful sandy beaches, twelve of which are Blue Flag Beaches. Whether you wish to scuba dive, fish, swim, surf or walk along Donegal's breathtaking coast you can do it all here. One particular highlight is Ballymastocker Bay, voted the second most beautiful beach in the world by Observer Magazine.
